PPWR banned packaging formats

Annex V bans six single-use plastic format and use combinations from 1 January 2030 — a fixed date that depends on no pending act, which makes it one of the few restrictions worth building a product roadmap around today.

The list covers grouped packaging for multipacks, single-use packaging for fresh fruit and vegetables below a weight threshold, single-use packaging for food and drink consumed on premises, condiment and sauce single portions in hospitality, hotel miniature toiletries, and very lightweight plastic carrier bags. Commission guidelines explaining the annex, with format examples and the fruit and vegetable exclusion list, are due on 12 February 2027 — so scope will sharpen, but the date will not move.
