PPWR deposit return systems

From 1 January 2029 Member States must ensure 90 % separate collection of single-use plastic beverage bottles and metal beverage containers, in practice through deposit return systems meeting Annex X.

This is a Member State duty with direct commercial consequences for anyone placing beverages on those markets: enrolment, labelling and fee structures are national and differ. A Member State reaching 80 % separate collection may seek an exemption by notifying the Commission with an implementation plan by 1 January 2028, so the map will not be uniform even after 2029. The platform records each country's position as reference data with its own source and retrieval date, and never infers a scheme that has not been published.
